JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Tax and Administrative Accountant
Purpose of the position.
The Tax and Administrative Accountant is responsible for managing the organization’s tax compliance, ensuring timely tax filings, and maintaining accurate tax records. The role also encompasses administrative responsibilities such as accounting for office expenses and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
Taxation:
  1. Tax Compliance and Filings:
  • Prepare and file corporate tax returns (e.g., VAT, PAYE, WHT) in compliance with local tax regulations.
  • Ensure timely payment of all tax obligations to avoid penalties.
  1. Tax Planning and Advisory:
    • Assist in tax planning to optimize the company’s tax position while ensuring compliance with regulations.
    • Monitor changes in tax laws and advise management on their implications.
  2. Tax Audits and Disputes:
    • Prepare documentation for tax audits and liaise with tax authorities during audits.
    • Resolve tax-related queries and disputes in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
  3. Record-Keeping:
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date tax records, ensuring all supporting documents are readily available for review.
    • Develop and implement systems to track tax compliance and filings.
Administrative Accounting:
  1. Office Operations Accounting:
  • Procuring and initiating payments of office supplies.
  • Accounting for administration related expenses.
  • Suppliers management.
  • Petty cash management.
  1. Coordination and Support:
    • Support the Human Resource department in payroll compilation, employee tax compliance and benefits administration.
    • Support the Financial Accountant in preparation of monthly management accounts.
    • Support the Financial Accountant in bank reconciliations.
    • Any other duties relevant to the role as may be assigned from time to time.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
 
  1. Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., CPA, ACCA,) are an added advantage.
  1. Experience:
  • At least 1 year experience in Finance and Accounting.
  • Experience with tax compliance, audits, and regulatory requirements.
  1. Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in accounting and tax software (e.g., Xero, TRA – Taxpayer Portal).
  • Knowledge of local tax laws and regulations.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  1. Soft Skills:
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
