Job Overview
The Credit Analyst is responsible for assessing the creditworthiness of potential clients, particularly small businesses and individuals seeking business loans, personal development loans or asset finance. The role involves analysing financial statements, evaluating credit histories, and conducting risk assessments to make informed lending decisions. The Credit Analyst plays a critical role in ensuring the financial health of the institution while promoting financial inclusion and supporting community development.
Key Responsibilities: 
  1. Credit Assessment
  • Analyse loan applications, financial statements, and credit reports to determine the creditworthiness of applicants. 
  • Conduct in-depth risk assessments and develop risk profiles for new and existing clients. 
  • Evaluate the viability of business plans and financial projections for small businesses. 
 
  1. Loan Processing
  • Review and verify the accuracy of information provided by loan applicants. 
  • Ensure that all required documentation is complete and complies with the institutional standards. 
  • Prepare detailed credit reports and make recommendations for loan approval or rejection. 
 
  1. Client Interaction
  • Interview loan applicants to gather additional information and clarify any discrepancies. 
  • Maintain regular communication with clients to monitor their financial status and loan repayment progress. 
 
  1. Compliance and Reporting
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and internal policies. 
  • Prepare and present regular reports on loan portfolio performance and risk assessment findings to management. 
  • Assist in the development and implementation of credit policies and procedures. 
 
  1. Collaboration
  • Work closely with Team leaders, branch managers, and other relevant departments to facilitate the loan approval process. 
  • Participate in credit committee meetings and provide input on credit decisions.

  1. Fraud Prevention, Compliance
  • Verify and validate client documentation to ensure authenticity and accuracy before loan processing.
  • Identify, flag, and escalate potential fraudulent cases or inconsistencies in loan applications.
  • Maintain compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements in all credit administration processes.
 
  1. Payroll Loan Administration
  • Work closely with employers to ensure proper booking and lodging of payroll loans for timely deductions and repayments.

Qualifications: 
Education: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field. 
  • Relevant certifications such as CFA, CPA, or equivalent are an added advantage. 

Experience: 
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in credit analysis or a similar role in a financial institution. 
  • Experience in bank, microfinance or working with small businesses is highly desirable. 
  • Skills: 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Excellent knowledge of financial analysis techniques and credit risk assessment. 
  • Proficiency in financial modelling and spreadsheet software (e.g., Excel). 
  • Familiarity with credit scoring systems and loan management software. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
